Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage can reduce stress hormones in your body and help you to feel relaxed and loosen tense muscles. During your pregnancy, regular massages can help you cope with discomfort as well as relieve insomnia, neck and back pain, joint pain, leg cramping and sciatica. In addition, massage will encourage blood and lymph circulation, reduce stress on weight bearing joints and help relax nervous tension.

A study by the Touch Research Institute, published in the journal of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology, suggests that massage during pregnancy is hugely beneficial. Studies also  show that women who receive regular massage have fewer complications during their pregnancy and labour and the new born babies are more settled and content. The feel good endorphins released by the mother during the massage are passed directly to the baby via the placenta.

The massage is carried out using Neal’s Yard Organic products. These products use Certified Organic Ingredients, calming natural essential oils (neroli and mandarin), have no synthetic fragrances  or colours, no GM ingredients, silicones or parabens.

Pregnancy massage can take place from 12 weeks onwards, assuming that the mother is fit and healthy and has no conditions that present as a complication. After 32 weeks, it is advisable to get written consent from GP or a midwife to advise that everything is progressing normally and a massage would be beneficial.
